A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after police found he was carrying a knife.
The teen was arrested by a community beat officer in Kendal town centre following a stop and search.
South Lakes Police said: “Knife crime can devastate lives and is taken very seriously by police and the courts.
“In this case, the knife was a locking type which is always prohibited.
“Sadly, some young people think that if you carry a knife, it will provide protection. But statistics show that if you carry a knife or weapon you are more likely to end up being hurt.
“You might think that you’ll be more respected for carrying a weapon, but all it really does is put you, your friends and family in danger.
“The resulting criminal record could stop you gaining entry into your chosen college or university, or getting a job. You could also go to prison. The message is clear. Do not carry a knife.”
