For the second time the NCCA T20 Finals Day was washed out on Sunday – and this time there was no play possible at all.
However, despite no play, Cumbria would have contested the final against Staffordshire as the two semi-finals were decided by the toss of a coin.
Michael Slack called correctly so the Cumbrians went through against Oxfordshire while Staffordshire won their coin toss with Berkshire.
But no play was possible and it was reluctantly decided to call it a day, but there won’t be a sharing of the trophy this time.
The NCCA decided not to award the Trophy this year rather than share it and there was a view that this was disappointing and does not show a reward to the four counties who reached finals day compared to the 16 who did not.
There was some amusement when Cumbria skipper Slack called tails for once and ‘won through’. The Oxfordshire team cheered when they lost the toss as it meant they could head home with little prospect of play.
