An inquest heard how a Carlisle man died in hospital more than a fortnight after he was found lying in a city street with a head injury.
Cumbria area coroner Kirsty Gomersal offered her deepest condolences to the family and friends of 63-year-old David Thompson during a short hearing earlier today.
Cockermouth Coroners’ Court was told that Mr Thompson, of Granville Road, was taken to the city’s Cumberland Infirmary after being found on July 31.
He was then transferred to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary and died on August 15 at 12.36am.
An attending clinician had offered the court, in lieu of a post mortem report, a statement offering the cause of dead as respiratory failure due to a traumatic brain injury.
Mr Thompson, a process worker, had been formally identified by his daughter.
Ms Gomersal concluded that she was satisfied a full inquest would be needed. The hearing was adjourned — in order that further enquiries could be made into events leading up to Mr Thompson’s death — to a provisional date of January 23 2025.
