Cleator Main Street will be closed for 10 weeks for road improvements to be carried out.
Work is due to start on the A5086 by DSD Construction on Monday, September 23.
The project is part of a £14.3 million Government-funded programme aimed at enhancing road infrastructure and will include significant upgrades, such as road network repairs, drainage replacement, traffic sign updates, and refreshing of road markings.
The work will be carried out by the council’s contractor DSD Construction Limited and will be managed under traffic lights from Monday until Monday, October 28.
After that, a full road closure will take place to ensure safety of both road users and staff, as the road will not be wide enough to remain open during the work.
During this period, a footway will be provided for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists.
Cumberland Council, which is co-ordinating the work, said a diversion route would be in place.
It said the improvements may cause temporary inconvenience to road users, especially given the importance of the A5086 and it was committed to minimising disruption and was working closely with local stakeholders, including parish councils and local members, to address concerns.
A drop-in session has been organised so people can learn more about the work at the Jubilee Room at the Community Hall, Church Street, Cleator, Cumbria, CA23 3DD on Thursday, September 26, from 4pm to 6pm.
