Distington go into tomorrow’s big home game in National Conference Division Three aiming to beat Drighlington for a third time over the season.
It’s the last game and a promotion decider with Distington aiming to cap their first season in Conference rugby league with a promotion.
But it hasn’t been straight-forward for coach Aiden Worthington in the final week of preparation, and he might have to get-out his own boots.
“In the last ten minutes of the final training session we got two injuries. Those are on top of two we picked-up in the play-off game last week, and the two we suffered in the final League game a week before that.
“It means we are going to need a couple of fitness tests before the game just to see how lads are. At the moment it’s looking as though I might have to play.
“However, we have some good lads ready to deputise and in fact, we will be playing five good teenagers tomorrow whatever happens. We have always had one eye on the future in the way we’ve brought these lads through.
“Although we have beaten Drighlington home and away I believe they have added some experienced ex-professionals to the squad so they might be a different proposition.
“But they are probably the biggest team in the League and I hope that we can run them around a bit and get the benefits at the end of each half
“Whatever the outcome we are all looking forward to it as it’s been a great experience, stepping up into the Conference League.”
