Work is set to start on a new path in Ulverston’s Ford Park later this month.
Luscomes Plant Hire is carrying out the work and will begin on Monday, September 30. It is due to take four weeks to complete.
Ford Park Community Group, which is responsible for the park, said: “Frequent visitors to Ford Park will know that our lovely green space can sometimes get a little soggy. Thanks to the good old Cumbrian weather, parts of the park can get quite muddy – not just in winter, but all year round!
“For many, that’s part of the charm. But for those with pushchairs, less mobility, or just trying to keep their trainers clean, it can make certain areas of the park tricky to navigate.
“The new path will make the park far more accessible for everyone, including groups like parkrun, dog walkers, families with young children, and anyone who loves a good stroll around our beautiful park.”
The work is being funded by several organisations including £10,000 from Ulverston BID; £5,000 from Bernard Sunley Foundation; £11,210 from Ulverston Town Council Community Infrastructure Levy and £16,000 from the Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
The group added: “Together, we’ve raised nearly everything we need, but we’re still £2,000 short of our target. This final bit will also allow us to improve the path that runs along the driveway—an area that tends to get particularly waterlogged over the winter, making it unusable.
“parkrunners have been adding money to our donation bucket over the last couple of weeks which is wonderful, and we are hoping that other park users can support this project and help us raise the last £1,500.”
