Windscale are through to the second round of the Fred Conway County Cup – without breaking sweat.
They should have played at Westmorland League side Braithwaite but two hours ahead of kick-off they informed the Atoms they were unable to raise a team.
A Windscale spokesman said: “It’s nice to make the second round but we would have preferred to go through on the field. The annoying thing is we could have fitted in a Wearside League fixture.”
The Atoms had gone into the week-end as Premier Division leaders but come out of it in second place, a point behind new leaders Durham Corinthians.
That sets-up a cracking game on Wednesday night when Windscale host the Corinthians at the Falcon Complex.
