Cleator Moor’s Phoenix Enterprise Centre has appointed two new members to its board of volunteer directors.
Paul Wood joins as digital strategy lead. His career spans over 30 years in the private and public sectors.
At Centrica, under the British Gas brand, he held various senior roles before transitioning to local government, where he worked at both Winchester City Council and Allerdale Borough Council.
Joining Allerdale Borough Council in 2015, Paul spearheaded business transformation and service improvement initiatives, eventually leading the council as chief executive.
The centre said: “Paul’s vast experience in managing organisational change, driving business improvements, ensuring customer service excellence and developing and delivering cutting-edge digital strategies. His expertise will help us navigate the fast-evolving digital landscape, ensuring the company stays at the forefront of innovation.”
Claire Louise Chapman joins the centre’s board as social impact practitioner
Claire Louise is the managing director of The Shared Value Business, a renowned social value consultancy.
The centre said: “With her strong background in social enterprise management and fundraising, Claire Louise will focus on strengthening and expanding our relationships with corporate funders and grant-making bodies. Her expertise will be invaluable as we continue to foster meaningful partnerships that benefit both people and places.”
Phoenix Enterprise Centre is a Community Interest Company established in 1985 to promote economic regeneration and support individuals in overcoming employment barriers in West Cumbria’s former Copeland borough.
It provides low-cost managed workspace, advice and guidance services, and collaborates with partner agencies to combat financial hardship in the community.
“Our mission is to revitalise our town and instil civic pride in our community,” said Joanne Crowe, executive director. “With dedicated individuals on board, we can work towards achieving this goal.”
The next chapter for the organisation will see the regeneration and reinstatement of another historic building for commercial use as part of the Cleator Moor Town Deal.
