A South Cumbrian village cafe’s plans to stay open until midnight has been met with objections.
Rivers and Roads, on Park Road in Milnthorpe, currently opens from 9am to 5pm seven days a week and has applied to Westmorland & Furness Council to open until midnight, host live music and sell alcohol until 11.30pm.
The application has received 19 objections, with one comment in support of the application.
Objectors said they were concerned about potential noise from the premises with one resident labelling the proposed opening hours as entirely unsuitable.
Another said: “The prospect of music, whether live or recorded, being played until late at night is a worry. Also, the noise made by people leaving the premises towards midnight is likely to disturb the peace and quiet.”
The business said suitable notices would be displayed at entrances and exits requesting customers to keep the noise down when smoking or leaving the premises and windows, and external doors would be kept closed between 10pm and midnight except for the immediate access and egress of people.
Members of the council’s licensing sub-committee will decide whether to grant a premises licence to Rivers and Roads when they meet on October 21.
