
It was a mixture of cup and league matches this weekend in the Cumberland County League.
Big match was in the quarter final of the Conway Cup in which reigning champions Maryport Athletic beat current Premier Division leaders Unisun Athletic 3-1.
Ciaran Booty, Alec Little and Cameron scored for Maryport with Ellis Dickinson netting for Unisun.
Holders Cockermouth are through to the semi final after beating Wigton Harrier 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw. Caine Winter and an own goal helped keep Cockermouth in the competition. Carl Lightfoot and own goal made up the Wigton tally.
Local rivals Whitehaven Miners Social and Whitehaven AFC Reserves went head to head. Goals from Robbie Watson, Connor Kilgour and by an opponent helped the reserve side win 3-2.
Nathan Walkingshaw put the ball in the back of the net for Miners with their otherbeing an own goal – so each of them scored for the opposition!
In round two, Leo Brennan, Coady Scott and Kieren Frazer helped Windscale Reserves to a 3-1 win against Bransty Rangers and booked themselves a quarter final tie away at Keswick.
Harvey Law netted for Bransty in this fixture that was rearranged afterbeing postponed last weekend due to a waterlogged pitch.
In the Premier Division, goals from Alfie West, Luke Mason and a brace from Bradley Fearns helped Keswick edge pass Aspatria 4-3 in a tie that was arranged at short notice. Goals from Dan Pearson, Sean Law and Richard Hudson weren’t enough for Aspatria to get anything from the game.
There were three games in Division One with Dearham United being the high scorers of the afternoon beating Whitehaven Miners Social Development 5-1.
Shane Paden Gale, Alfie Green, Kyle Adlard, Taylor Manchester and Dylan Robinson were all on the score sheet for Dearham with Miners goal coming from Ben McCarron.
In another six-goal thriller, Tyler Harrell netted twice with Luke Davidson and Jack Dunstan also scoring for Workington Juniors to help them bounce back from their 2-0 midweek Fred Conway Cumberland Cup defeat to Carlisle United.
They enjoyed a 4-2 victory against Cockermouth Reserves with Keith Skillen and Ben Greaves on target for their opponents.
Mirehouse beat Unisun Athletic Youth Development 2-0 with Callum Wilson and an own goal securing the victory.
