Cumbrian brewery aims to open Lake District tap room

The Old Mill, the planned premises for Lakes Brew Co’s new tap room

A Cumbrian brewery plans to open a new tap room in the heart of the Lake District next year.

Lakes Brew Co, based in Kendal, said it aims to open the new venue in Ambleside early in 2025 in the Old Mill, which is accessed via North Road.

Michelle Gay, co-founder, said: ““We are constantly being asked when are you going to open a permanent tap room, and that time is now. A flagship venue, in the heart of the Lakes.”

The Lakes Brew Co team has invited Toast of Windermere to join them as their onsite food vendor in the new venture.

Lakes Brew Co said its hope was to create a vibrant, inclusive, family friendly social space for locals and visitors, blending the modern and traditional parts of the area.

It said it will offer and showcase a range of its own award-winning craft beers, all brewed and packaged at the brewery within 14 miles of the new premises, alongside other new drinks, creating a comprehensive offer to suit all tastes.

For the last two years, Lakes Brew Co has successfully run a pop-up tap space once a month, in the brewery on the Mintsfeet Industrial Estate in Kendal. It said these will still go ahead.

Michelle added: “The hope is to create a space where everyone can go, feel relaxed, drink some great beer and eat some amazing food, by two modern, local independent businesses.

“The space and offer will be something completely different to what you can currently get in Ambleside at the moment.”
