
The Cumberland County League Benevolent Cup reached its second round on Saturday with some fixtures being absolute crackers on this bonfire weekend.
Cockermouth Reserves claimed a 6-3 victory against Dearham United when these Division One clubs went head to head.
Troy Patterson scored a hat trick with the other goals coming from Keith Skillen (2) and Harry Johnson. Danny Dryden, Lewis Manchester and Callum Foy all found the back of the net for Dearham.
Cockermouth first team are also into the quarter final thanks to a 4-3 victory against Unisun Athletic.
Luke Graham hit three of those goals for Cockermouth with the other coming from Ben Rathbone. Unisun goal scorers in this battle between two Premier Division outfits were Shane Dorward, Dillon Burns and Benn Atkinson.
Division One’s Bransty Rangers edged past their Premier Division opponents Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves with a 4-3 win as Spike Canavan with a hat trick and Brandon Tauber were on the mark.
Lucca Ibbis, Sam Stones and Cohen French all finished for Celtic Reserves but it was Bransty who claimed the quarter final place.
In an all Premier Division tie, Shea Johnston, Matthew Reed, Finley Carruthers, Andrew Hill and an own goal helped Wigton Harriers to a 5-1 Victory against Aspatria, who’s goal came from Liam Parker.
Keswick, from the Premier Division, welcomed First Division Silloth to Fitz Park and it was the home side who booked themselves a spot in the quarter final with a comfortable 9-0 wi.
Bradley Fearns (2), Jules West (2), Alfie West (2), Dan Abbott, Jamie little and Andy Frampton all found the back of the net.
In a tight match, Division One rivals Whitehaven AFC Reserves and Mirehouse were involved in a 1-1 draw. Carl Denver scored for Whitehaven and Callum Wilson netted for Mirehouse who finally won the tie on penalties 7-6.
It wasn’t all cup action on Saturday as there was also a league fixture. In Division One, Workington Juniors bagged themselves a 7-1 win against Windscale Reserves.
Chad Grisdale scored two for Workington with the other goals being by Harry Watson, Tyler Harrell, Danny Manchester, Naill Melton and Macauley Sharp. Coady Scott was the Windscale scorer.
Next Saturday, Whitehaven Miners Social Development welcome Workington Juniors in this Division One encounter, kick off is 2pm.
Elsewhere, the Fred Conway Cumberland Cup is back with its second round, kick offs are 1.30pm.
