A Carlisle law firm has been awarded a Family Legal Aid contract.
Wragg Mark-Bell Solicitors will be able represent clients who would not otherwise be able to pay for its services.
Keith White, private client and family solicitor at Wragg Mark-Bell, said: “This contract will ensure justice is accessible to our clients regardless of financial capability and that they get the support they need when it matters most.
“Legal Aid protects the rights of low-income individuals, provides access to justice by providing legal representation in the court system and safeguards legal rights and helps individuals to navigate legal processes.”
In divorce and separation proceedings – including same-sex marriages and civil partnership dissolutions – the aim is to promote amicable resolutions wherever possible, minimising conflict and fostering a positive path forward.
And, in the wake of changes to child custody laws, it provides guidance on Childcare Arrangement Orders, which have replaced Child Contact, Child Custody Orders and Residence Orders. The focus is on the best interests of the children while respecting the rights of parents and guardians.
Nick Kennon, managing director of Wragg Mark-Bell, said: “We’re delighted to be awarded the Family Legal Aid contract.
“As a practice, it’s important to us that people across the community can access our services when they really need them. This award will enable many more clients to benefit from our expertise in this sensitive and complex area of law.”
