Whitehaven’s new head coach Anthony Murray has used his experiences at his former club to recruit another new face for 2025.
For at Workington Town, Murray had 21 year-old Kian McPherson looking to make an impact at the Fibrus Community Stadium.
Unfortunately, McPherson struggled with a long standing injury which limited the forward to just one appearance last season as he made his professional bow.
However, the former Millom man had scored nine tries in 17 appearances for the Woollybacks in their successful NCL promotion campaign in 2023 after making a memorable impact in his debut open age season for the club back in 2019 scoring a hat-trick as a 16 year old.
Murray said: “Kian showed lots of promise in the community game before signing for Workington last season.
“Unfortunately, he had a bad ankle break just before pre-season started and missed most of last season.
“He worked really hard on his rehab and managed to play one senior game. He is a big strong middle and only knows one way to run that’s straight and hard.
“I’m sure with a good pre-season under his belt Kian will show what he is capable of and will be a key forward for us this season.”
