Peacocks and peahens which have plagued a West Cumbrian town for years have been called out for their anti-social behaviour by police.
Around 30 birds have been causing a nuisance in the town’s Ellenborough, dividing opinion as to whether they should stay or go.
Last year, even the national press visited the town to cover the story – and three peacocks were found dead.
They originated from the Ellenbank Hotel but moved into the housing estate after the hotel closed. No one has claimed ownership of them and they have continued to breed.
Cumberland Council worked with a local animal charity to try to remove the peacocks last year.
Neighbourhood policing teams are targeting anti-social behaviour as part of an operation called Enhance.
Today, Allerdale Police posted on social media: “While on Operation Enhance, local officers realised its not just the two legged species responsible for anti-social behaviour in the Maryport area! Be reassured though they are going to good homes!”
