Police have praised staff from a Workington store who went out of their way to tackle a shoplifter during the town’s Christmas lights switch-on.
In a social media post, Allerdale police said: “A shout out to the unsung heroes.
“Staff at one store went out of their way on Saturday to stop a shoplifter and succeeded. Unfortunately, one lady was assaulted and others had glass thrown at them. No one goes to work to be assaulted but the staff did a cracking job!
“This crim was arrested by officers on foot after a short foot chase during the Christmas lights switch-on.
“While in custody made himself sick, smearing it around his cell. Including over the cell hatch and throwing it over the camera
“Shout out to the custody team who had to deal with such a lovely fella. Another set of unsung heroes.
“Got to love a story with a happy ending as following a remand he will be spending Christmas in prison.”
