A teen has been banned from Barrow town centre and other parts of the town after engaging in persistent anti-social behaviour, crime and disorder.
An interim injunction has been issued by South Cumbria Youth Court.
Barrow Neighbourhood Policing Team applied to the youth court for the teen to be subject to an Anti-Social Behaviour Injunction and the court granted the order on Friday 29 November.
The interim injunction is effective immediately and specifies that the teen, who cannot be named because they are under 18, is prohibited from entering certain parts and premises in the town including:
- Hindpool retail park
- Hollywood Park
- Steel Street
- Walney Road retail park
- Barrow town centre
- Cornerhouse Park
- Farmfoods, Walney Road
The teen is also banned from being in a group of more than two people under the age of 18 in public and banned from using insulting language or intimidating, harassing or pestering a person in a public place.
Sergeant Paul Holmes, of Barrow NPT, said: “Extensive work was carried out by the Barrow Neighbourhood Policing Team to achieve this civil interim injunction which we hope will prevent further disorder and anti-social behaviour from this individual.
“We hope it will improve the quality of life for those in the area and who have been affected by this behaviour over the recent months.
“The injunction also carries a power of arrest, meaning the teen can be arrested and presented to the court for immediate outcome should any conditions be broken. This helps police to manage behaviour more effectively and means the courts have greater powers to sentence should a breach occur.”
Residents who are having any issues with this type of behaviour in their communities are encouraged to speak to their local community beat officer or PCSO. Alternatively, issues can be reported via Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
