Excavation work will continue at a damaged Barrow pavement next week.
Plans to fell 19 trees on Infield Park caused huge controversy in the town – with a petition set up to stop the work going ahead.
Westmorland & Furness Council said it was necessary to get rid of the trees for public safety over concerns regarding the state of uneven pavements.
Due to the outcry, the authority paused its plans and said the earliest it would be considered would be January.
Last month, it issued a statement to say investigation work would take place from November 27 to November 29.
Workers excavated the pavements to measure exact depth of tree roots below the surface.
The council said the work should help inform future engineering decisions and the pavement surface would be reinstated.
Today, December 5, it said more work will be carried out from Monday, December 9, to assess the depth of other tree roots on the street.
The work is expected to be completed within four days and there will be a road closure set up throughout the duration of the work and a pavement closure between house numbers 8 and 12 and 9 and 17.
Once the excavation work has been completed the pavement surface will be reinstated.
Access for both residents and emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout with no disruption to waste and recycling collections.
The council stressed the work would not impact any of the trees and no trees would be removed during the work.
The findings from the investigations from last week and next week will inform a consultation, planned to launch in January, where residents will be able to provide feedback on options that aim to provide a long-lasting solution to the issues.
The council said it was keen to understand whether resurfacing of the current area, without the need for tree removal, is a possible safe and suitable long-term solution.
A letter informing residents about the latest work is being delivered to impacted properties, with a request that any vehicles parked along and opposite the section of the street where the work will take place should be moved before 7.30am on December 9.
