Ulverston’s Light up a Light service has been cancelled due to Storm Darragh.
Organisers of the event, run by St Mary’s Hospice, said they made the decision to call off the event as the risk of strong wind and heavy rain poses a risk of danger for attendees, volunteers and staff.
The Met Office has issued the county with an amber warning for wind and multiple yellow weather warnings for heavy rain and further strong winds over the weekend.
Events and challenges manager, Melissa Dixon, said: “Cancelling our Ulverston Light Up a Light service has been an incredibly difficult decision, but the safety of our community must always come first. With an amber weather warning in place, we cannot take any risks that might put attendees, volunteers, or staff in harm’s way.
“While we are truly disappointed, we know this is the right decision to ensure everyone stays safe. We look forward to welcoming you to our Cartmel service on December 15, where we can gather together in a safe and special way.”
Those wishing to attend a future Light Up a Life event are invited to the Cartmel Light Up a Life Service on December 15.
