Plans for a new spa at a four-star Lake District hotel have been given the go ahead.
Owners of the Wild Boar Hotel, on Crook Road, near Windermere, has been given permission by the Lake District National Park to create the spa.
English Lakes Hotels wants to create a new spa building in the hotel’s grounds, which will include treatment areas, changing areas, a pool, a sauna building, a hot tub and other guest facilities.
The application said: “The proposed spa facilities will enhance and improve the quality of the experience for visitors, encourage an increase in the length of stay of overnight visitors and encourage year round sustainable tourism.
“The scheme is well-designed, so as to not have a negative impact on the character and appearance of the hotel site, the locality or the wider national park.”
The proposed construction of the spa followed the removal of the existing garage block, sheds and cabins.
The application said: “Whilst the hotel maintains relatively strong occupancy rates, there is a need to enhance and improve the offer on site to ensure that the business remains sustainable in an extremely competitive market.
“The most effective way to achieve this is through diversifying the range of guest facilities available on site.”
