Drivers are urged to avoid the A689 at Milton near Brampton after a level crossing failure.
Cumbria police said they had been advised of the failure at 7.19am today, Tuesday January 7.
Network Rail is aware and is working to resolve the issue.
People are asked to avoid the area due to a build-up of traffic.
