Several areas across north and West Cumbria have not had their rubbish or recycling collected due to the weather.

Cumberland Council said it was unable to reach places in the former Allerdale area due to the extremely difficult weather conditions on Tuesday January 7.

The following areas have been affected:

  • Mealsgate
  • Welton
  • Caldbeck
  • Hesket Newmarket
  • Upton
  • Westwood
  • Rosley
  • Wigton (part)
  • Seatoller
  • Bassenthwaite
  • Borrowdale
  • Uldale
  • Rosthwaite
  • Thirlmere
  • Embleton
  • Threlkeld

Cumberland Council said: “The current conditions aren’t expected to ease until the weekend so we won’t be able to return to make these collections this week. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Residents are advised:

Household waste – we will take up to three bags of excess waste on the next scheduled collection (Tuesday January 14). Bags will need tied securely and placed out with the household bin.

Recycling – Crews will return next Tuesday, January 14, and empty any bin that was missed. Any excess should be kept for their next scheduled collection on Tuesday January 21.
