Two dogs who were trapped in the mud at the bottom of a West Cumbrian harbour have been rescued.
Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard Rescue Teams, plus Maryport Rescue, were initially called yesterday, Thursday January 16, at around 6.45pm to reports that the two small dogs and potentially children were stuck in Maryport Harbour.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Team personnel were shortly on scene and quickly established that no people were stuck in the mud, however it was confirmed the two small dogs had fell off the wall and were stuck.
“Our colleagues at Maryport Rescue had committed to the rescue of the dogs so our officers supported them in their efforts and both dogs were successfully recovered unharmed.”
The dogs were stuck in the mud in the harbour near the Lake District Coast Aquarium.

Maryport Rescue said: “Using an inflated three-man sled, one dog at a time was placed securely into a bag and pulled up the harbour wall to safety.
“After a nice shower back at the lifeboat station both dogs were reunited with their owners.”
