Wetheriggs Country park plan

A plan is in the pipeline to enhance a Penrith park – and people are invited to help shape its future.

Westmorland and Furness Council is inviting people to share their thoughts about Wetheriggs Country Park as part of a project linked to the A66 upgrade.

Alongside the A66 upgrade project between Junction 40 of the M6 and Kemplay roundabout, the council has secured funding from National Highways to create a master plan for Wetheriggs Country Park.

After completion of the road, the park will feature an updated and slightly expanded layout.

The master plan is due to be completed by the end of March and the council wants people to share feedback and ideas to ensure the park reflects the needs and aspirations of the community.

Councillor Virginia Taylor, Westmorland and Furness Council cabinet member for sustainable communities and localities, said: “Wetheriggs Country Park is a valued green space in Penrith and this enhancement project represents a fantastic opportunity to improve it for future generations.

“We’re committed to ensuring the park reflects the needs and aspirations of local residents and users, and that’s why we want to hear your views. Your input will be invaluable in shaping our master plan and a future vision for the park.”

An online survey is now live at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WetheriggsCountryPark and paper copies are available to collect from Voreda House and Penrith Leisure Centre.

A site plan is also available to help illustrate the proposed enlarged layout of the park.

The survey is open until Sunday February 2 and paper copies should be returned to either Voreda House or Penrith Leisure Centre by this date.
