The firm working to deliver the new University of Cumbria Barrow Campus is bringing a boost to the local community.
Main contractor Caddick is supporting a range of charitable and education initiatives.
Caddick has partnered with a range of organisations and charities in the town with over £2,500 donated to good causes.
A school reading programme in the Barrow area led by the Hello Future partnership received a £1,500 donation from Caddick. The money pledged will go towards the purchase of book vouchers for year 7 learners in the Barrow area.
Caddick’s community partnerships also included a £500 donation to Furness Homeless, a charity that provides wrap-around support for adults facing homelessness.
Riding for the Disabled Association based at Sea View Horse Riding also received £500 from the team, which will enable the charity to continue its horseriding sessions for those living with developmental or physical disabilities, promoting confidence, health and wellbeing.
The donations form part of Caddick’s presence in the town as it delivers the University of Cumbria’s new Barrow Campus, off Buccleuch Dock Road.
Construction work began in early 2024 to deliver a state-of-the-art, dock-side campus including new teaching spaces, offices, catering, landscaping and car parking.
Project management degree apprentices learning with BAE Systems and University of Cumbria have been among learners visiting the construction site, as the campus takes shape.
Elsewhere, Caddick has delivered educational sessions with engineering, multi-trade, plastering and brickwork students from Furness College. Students were given a unique insight into the varied roles required on a construction site.
Furness College students were then given the opportunity to speak with Caddick’s team of experts and gain industry insights, with all students provided with access to sign up for a site visit.
