A mobile phone signal outage caused by Storm Éowyn is affecting people in West Cumbria.
People using the O2 network in Egremont and surrounding areas are unable to make calls, send text messages or use mobile data due a mast being ‘out of service.’
Other mobile phone networks using the same mast are also affected, including Tesco Mobile and Vodafone. Signal issues have also been reported in Gosforth and Seascale.
Engineers have been sent out to restore services as soon as possible – but the firm have warned that service may come and go until it is fixed.
O2 is updating its website hourly on the status of the issue.
An O2 spokesperson said: “We are aware that some customers in the Egremont area may be experiencing intermittent issues with their service following Storm Éowyn, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“Our infrastructure partner, Vodafone, is aware of the issue and working as quickly as possible to resolve it.”
Vodafone, which owns the mast, said a site visit is scheduled to assess the issues.
A spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to our customers affected by issues with their services. Our networks team has been unable to fully assess the site since the outage was reported due to safety concerns and severe weather conditions.
“They are visiting the site regularly and will complete a further investigation when it is safe to do so.
“The team is working hard to restore services as soon as possible. We encourage our customers to sign up to Network Checker to receive status updates regarding network issues.”
People across Cumbria are still without power following Storm Éowyn. Electricity North West said it is actively working to provide support and restore power to those affected.
