Headlining this week, Maryport produced the shock of the season so far as they defeated current top tier champions Workington Golf Club, 3-2.
Ben Scott gave Maryport Social the perfect start in frame one, dismantling Bryan Walker in a low scoring 39-17 victory.
Andrew Sharp soon put Maryport 2-0 up, producing a stunning 79-29 win over Simon Fraser in what was a commanding display.
In frame three, the Golf Club’s Kenny Kirkwood edged out Gary Miller in a nail-biting 52-49 finish, clawing it back to 2-1.
Andrew Scott however ensured Maryport captured the match win in frame four, defeating Lewis Tilley 49-41 with some calculated tactical play.
Phil Sorfleet produced a break of 37 in the final frame of the match as he defeated Maryport’s Ben Irving 69-42 thus limiting the damage to leave the Golf Club just one adrift at 3-2.
Leading the table in division 1 Station Road Club maintained their top spot as they defeated division 2’s Rack Shack by the odd frame, 3-2.
In frame one, Chris McKelvey gave the Rack Shack an early lead, the Whitehaven cueist edging out Tom Thompson 56-50 in a closely fought contest.
John Teasdale levelled the match for the visitors in the second frame with an emphatic 73-33 victory over Rack Shack’s Adam Morilla, showcasing his tactical control in the process.
Darren Lawson put Station Road in front after the third frame, producing a composed 65-30 win over Peter McAvoy with Lawson’s precision potting proving to be decisive.
Craig Hunter sealed the match at 3-1 for Station Road, overcoming Lee Dougherty 72-30 in a dominant performance that left no room for a comeback.
In the final frame of the match, Phil Denvir salvaged a point for Rack Shack, delivering an impressive 71-30 victory over Kevin Kirkham to end the match at 3-2 in Station Road’s favour.
In the next fixture Workington Veterans Club A maintained their fine league form with a 4-1 win over fellow townies Workington Veterans Club B.
In frame one, Shane Tallentire gave United Club B an early advantage, as Mark Tunstall potted the black only to go in-off for Tallentire to win 50-40.
Kevin Basnett responded for Vets A in frame two, producing a brilliant 74-15 victory over Andrew Carter. Basnett’s 56 break, made with his very first scoring chance, showcased his composure and quality.
Stephen O’Hagan extended Vets A’s lead in frame three, defeating Stephen Harrison 66-13. O’Hagan’s break of 36 was definitely the highlight, demonstrating his ability under pressure.
Mark Tatton secured the match for Vets A side in frame four, with a strong 61-23 win against Adam Sowden, showing consistency throughout.
In the final frame of the match Paul Smith wrapped up a convincing victory for Vets A defeating Stephen Jackson 55-29 in safety dominated tussle.
Finally, division 1’s United Club A produced a confident team display as they defeated Workington Veterans Club B, 4-1.
Dave Chapman got the United Club A off to a great start, defeating Dan Hallam 60-22 in confident performance.
Clive Lister extended the match lead in frame two, defeating Jordan Ferguson 75-32 with some superb potting for a 2-0 United A advantage.
United A’s Tony Hindmoor then made it 3-0 with a decisive 64-17 victory over Paul Johnston, ensuring he side went away with the win.
In the fourth frame Peter O’Hagan added to Vets B’s pain with an emphatic 79-15 win over Adam Hodgson for 4-0.
However, in the final frame of the match Simon Tootle salvaged a point for Vets B, defeating United A captain Andrew Mitchelhill 62-28 to end at 4-1.
