Plans have been lodged to build 143 homes in Kendal.
Persimmon Homes Charles Church has submitted a planning application to Westmorland and Furness Council to build the estate on land west of High Sparrowmire.
The proposed development would consist of three-storey apartment blocks and two to five-bedroom houses.
There would be 50 affordable homes – 25 available for affordable rent, 12 shared ownership properties and 13 for first homes. 375 car parking spaces are proposed to be included, with all houses set to have private driveways.
Financial contributions towards nearby play and recreation facilities at the Acre Moss Lane play site would be provided.
Planning documents said: “The development provides high quality open space for new and existing residents, with attractive planting and enhanced connections into the surrounding countryside.
“In addition, contributions to off-site play provision improve existing facilities for the wider community, and the proposal provides attractive landscaping that ensures public open space and walking routes are visually appealing, with additional ecological benefits.”
Plans said the construction would create around 131 temporary construction jobs.
Vehicle access is proposed from Windermere Road (to the west) and would take the form of a new priority junction arrangement.
A main spine road through the centre of the site is proposed, benefiting from a pavement on both sides of the carriageway, plans state.
In a pre-application consultation on the proposals, 74 per cent of the 271 respondents were against the idea of residential development on High Sparrowmire.
Westmorland and Furness Council has been targeted with building 1,331 homes a year under the new method, lower than the previously proposed target of 1,430 homes the local authority was initially set in July before consultation on the proposals was carried out.
In the area managed by the new council there was an average of 773 homes built each year between 2020/2021 and 2022/2023. Under the previous system the authority is targeted with delivering 227 homes per year.
All councils in England have been given new housing targets in a bid to build 370,000 homes a year.
This planning application is undergoing public consultation.
