Hensingham RLFC hosted a morning of vital life saving skills for young rugby league players from the club’s Under-12s and Under-14s teams, writes Ben Challis.
The fun packed session was provided by Morgan Sindall Infrastructure trainers Stu Bowman and Jim Haddon to to raise awareness for basic life support, and teach defibrillator skills, allowing the club’s young players to understand what they can do to help, and potentially save lives, in an emergency.
It was the second session in halt term that Morgan Sindall had delivered, with Aspatria Hornets hosting the earlier session for their committee members and players, as well as local park runners.

Gemma Harrison and Natalie Ireland, of Morgan Sindall Infrastructures’ social impact team facilitated the two sessions.
Gemma said: “This is such an important cause, and the fact that these young people braved the weather in half term to come and learn about how to save lives is amazing.

“We hope to be able to offer this training to more members of our communities in the future.”
Tony Pearce, Hensingham ARLFC youth chair added: “It is absolutely amazing to get the chance for the kids to learn not just life skills, but to learn lifesaving skills.

“We are so proud of them all giving up some of their free time to attend this course.”
Lead instructor Jim added: “This has been such a great group, all really keen to learn with a real interest. They all participated really well, and are a real credit to the club.”
