Creighton travelled to Workington Zebras on Saturday for their last away league game of the season, and came away with two losing bonus points after a 28-24 defeat.
Jason Tait opened the scoring early on with a try, closely followed by one from Nathan Harmon, both converted by George Dudley to establish a promising 14-0 lead.
Zebras kept plugging away and were rewarded with a penalty try but when Dean Lambert crossed in the 30th minute, Creighton had what looked like a comfortable 19-7 lead at the break.
Injuries to influential players Harmon, Dudley and Middleton, together with a yellow card for Alex Taylor didn’t help matters and Workington came back into the game in determined fashion.
Zebras notched a converted try to narrow the gap 8 minutes into the second half, but Owen Gill scored an unconverted try to put Creighton 10 points clear.
Workington then moved ahead with 2 converted tries and despite some pressure from Creighton, the home team saw the game out.
There was some consolation in that Creighton gained a losing bonus point and another for scoring 4 tries, and remain in 10th position with two league games remaining – both at home – to Windermere on March 22 and Workington on April 5.
