
Santander will reduce opening hours at two of its Cumbrian branches later this year.
Penrith and Kendal branches are affected by the changes, which will come into effect on June 30.
They are among 36 having their hours slashed. The group, which currently has 444 branches, announced that it was closing 95 branches, resulting in 750 jobs being lost.
Penrith’s Market Square branch will only open from 9.30am to 3pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9.30am to noon on Saturdays.
It said a recent review of branches, looking at where they are located, how they are used and other options available, informed the decisions.
Its data was collected between July to December last year.
It said 93% of Penrith customers already used a variety of ways to bank, with 75% using online, mobile or telephone banking services.
It said 30% have used another Santander branch, 54 personal customers have carried out three or more transactions and only used the Penrith branch, one business customer has carried out three or more transactions and only used the Penrith branch and 53 customers have made a general enquiry three times or more and only used the Penrith branch.
The Kendal branch, on Stricklandgate, will open from 9.30am to 3pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
It said 93% of Kendal customers already used a variety of ways to bank, with 72% using online, mobile or telephone banking services.
It said 27% have used another Santander branch, 78 personal customers have carried out three or more transactions and only used the Kendal branch, two business customers have carried out three or more transactions and only used the Kendal branch and 79 customers have made a general enquiry three times or more and only used the Kendal branch.
