Initial plans have been lodged to build a solar farm in Barrow.
Noventum Power Ltd has submitted a request to Westmorland and Furness Council for a screening opinion to see if plans for a solar farm next to Kimberly-Clark Paper Mill need an environmental impact assessment.
The proposed 12.5MW solar park, on a 21.1 hectares site would consist of five interconnected fields.
The site is bounded to the north by Sowerby Wood, beyond which is a waste management recycling site.
To the east, the site is bound by the Kimberly-Clark facility and a wastewater treatment plant.
The company said the proposed development would be operational for 40 years, after which point it would be decommissioned and the land returned to its current agricultural use.
If the council identifies significant environmental effects of the development, an environmental impact assessment would be necessary.
The application is undergoing public consultation.
