It was a Super Saturday of goals and silverware for Workington’s Hardy twins, writes John Hastings.
At the AEK Arena in Larnaca, club captain Steffi Hardy scored the only goal as Apollon beat Omonia to win the Cyprus FA Cup and complete the treble, having already won the League title and Super Cup this season.
It’s Steffi’s 12th winners medal, having won 6 League titles, 3 FA Cups and 3 Super Cups since she joined Apollon in January 2019.
Meanwhile over 2,200 miles away at Fir Park in Motherwell, Rangers comprehensively outplayed Hibernian 5-0 to retain the Sky Sports Scottish League Cup for the third year in succession.
Rio Hardy came on as a 69th minute substitute with Rangers already 3-0 up – but having scored in last year’s final, she was determined to do so again this time round and her wish came true in stoppage when she raced clear unopposed before calmly firing home.
Rio has now gained three domestic winners medals – 2 League Cups and a Scottish Cup – since she joined Rangers in July 2023, along with 2 league titles during her time at Apollon with Steffi.
Now Rio will be determined to help Rangers maintain their own Treble push by retaining the Scottish Cup and finally clinching that elusive Scottish League title and although the domestic season has finished in Cyprus, there are still UEFA Women’s Nations League fixtures next month, so Steffi will hope to add to her 4 caps.
