An operation to crack down on dangerous parking in a West Cumbrian town ended with traders and passers-by shouting abuse at council workers.
Copeland Police said its Neighbourhood Policing Team teamed up with Cumberland Council enforcement officers in Whitehaven town centre on Wednesday, March 26.
It was to tackle anti-social and often dangerous parking in the town centre.
Fifteen tickets were issued.
However, Copeland Police said: “It was extremely disappointing to witness verbal abuse aimed towards our council colleagues by shop owners and members of the public.
“Please remember they are human beings doing a job and should not have to put up with being shouted at and called names.
“Council enforcement officers wear video cameras and anyone being abusive towards them will be dealt with robustly by police.
“That minor parking ticket may become a criminal conviction so be mindful of your conduct before venting your frustrations!” “
