Fresh plans have been submitted for a Lake District storage compound capable of housing hundreds of cars.
Previous proposals were refused due to concerns over lighting.
Lloyd Motor Group has submitted a new planning application to the Lake District National Park Authority to provide 254 car storage spaces for use by local dealerships next to the existing South Lakes BMW dealership near Lindale.
Committee member Peter Walter had previously said he appreciated the need to support an existing business but added the proposed lighting was a problem.
National park member Vicky Hughes proposed deferring the application and said: “We’re stuck here in a place where we want to encourage business and infrastructure because we want to grow our economy, we also want to encourage people to stay, live and work within our area.
“I know it’s a sensitive area and we’ve also got to maintain our landscape, but I don’t want to refuse it, I want to be able to approve but I’m not satisfied with the lighting.”
However, it was refused.
According to planning documents, the new design reviews concerns and requirements regarding the proposed lighting and aims to remedy these where practicable.
Plans state the lux levels – a measurement of light intensity – will be reduced from 10 lux to 5/6 lux in the new proposals.
In the new design, five lighting columns have been removed on access roads to the site.
The site would be active from 9am to 6pm on weekdays, with lighting proposed to be off unless triggered by staff during working hours or, for site security if triggered by intruders.
Plans added that from late March to late October all vehicular movements within the site would be during daylight hours.
The proposed 2.38 hectare site is currently undeveloped land and is bounded by the A590 to the north and undeveloped land to the south.
Lloyd Group said the proposals would address the insufficient vehicle compound space to serve the nearby workshop and showroom facilities.
