Cornwall RLFC has announced it is withdrawing immediately from Betfred League One.
The club said its decision was based on financial reasons.
The withdrawal could have implications for Cumbrian teams Whitehaven and Workington Town.
Whitehaven played the side on Sunday, although Workington Town has yet to face Cornwall as their match, which should have been played at home, was a washout and rearranged for April 13.
The RFL said it had contacted the other 10 League One clubs this morning.
It said it recognised the importance of providing clarity in terms of how the withdrawal will be handled, the validity of previous results, and the impact on the fixture list.
