People can have their say on the first phase of a £2.6 million plan to upgrade Carlisle’s green spaces.

Start with the Park is backed by Government funding from Carlisle Town Deal, and aims to to enhance the green spaces of Carlisle as part of the first phase of the Greenway – a visionary green travel route connecting St Cuthbert’s Garden Village with Carlisle city centre and the surrounding countryside.

Start with the Park is a major investment in Hammond’s Pond.

Proposals include:

  • Upgraded play areas to enhance recreational opportunities for children and families
  • A new skate park for active leisure and sports
  • New tree planting and enhanced footpaths to improve green spaces and biodiversity
  • Addressing drainage issues within the park

A consultation drop-in event will take place on Wednesday April 16, from 2pm to 7pm at Hammond’s Pond Café.

People will be able to ask questions about the plans, give their feedback and get a clearer understanding of the proposals and their impact on the community.

Cumberland Councillor Anne Quilter, executive member for vibrant and healthy places, said: “We encourage everyone to share their thoughts on this exciting project.

“Hammond’s Pond is one of the most well-used parks in the area, and the proposed improvements will bring real, long-term benefits for local families, visitors and residents alike. We want to capture as many people’s views as possible to help shape a space that the whole community can be proud of.”
