Border City Centurions have kicked off their season with a hat-trick of wins, sending them top of national Division 1.
Someone should have told reigning Divisional Champions West Lancashire beware the Ides of March before the Border City Centurions marched into town and demolished their reputation with a crushing 46-14 road victory.
Adding their scalping to two further wins, against Lancashire and the Wirral, the Cents have put the whole country on notice and stamped their claim on the NFFL 25 national title.
The mission objective is now to hold on to the top spot for the entire season’s 16 remaining fixtures.
The wins came as no surprise to expert analysts of the domestic game, as the Carlisle side have been banging on the door at the national finals for two consecutive seasons now.

However, the margins of these wins captured attention and surprise across the league.
Pillaging a whopping 139 points from top-class opponents, racking up a points difference of +58 and bagging a bounty of 17 passing touchdowns within their first three games – this is surely the stuff real contenders are made of.
There have been a lot of standout performances across the whole squad already, however the month’s laurels go to team MVP Lewis Curl, Offensive MVP Dom Lewis and Defensive MVP Jack Holt.
Who are Border City Centurions?
Founded in 2022, the Border City Centurions are a Carlisle-based Flag American Football Team, with already 100-plus club members and players recruited from across Cumbria, South Scotland and borderland the team is growing rapidly.
The Centurions are affiliated to the British American Football Association and the Adult Seniors team play in the UK’s National Flag Football League’s Division 1.
This year, the Centurions have also entered their U14 side to the national leagues and have a fully fledged youth programme based at the Carlisle Youth Zone every Wednesday evening.
Thanks for generous local sponsorships and partnership with Diabetes UK’s Lorraine Hough Tribute Fund, the Centurions can offer the opportunity to come along and try the game for free. What is Flag Football?
Flag is a rapidly growing, high-speed and skill-based format of non-contact American Football.
Embraced by both the NFL and now the International Olympic Committee who have cleared it for immediate inclusion for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Flag has been taking the sports world by storm over the past decade.
The growth of the game is chiefly a result of its highly inclusive nature and also because it presents athletes with an alternative pathway to the traditional full contact format, due to increasing awareness of the links between the impacts of repetitive concussions and the long-term head traumas in contact sports.
Consequently, today Flag Football is one of the fastest growing sports in not only the UK, but both Europe and the Americas.
With a senior adult team now established in Carlisle, the junior team is also rapidly developing, and a women’s side will be starting up shortly.
