Maryport Athletic won the first piece of silverware on offer in the Cumberland County League on Friday night when they were crowned champions of the Conway Cup after a 2-1 victory against Keswick.

In a match at Borough Park in Workington, goals from Logan Bosward and Ethan Weir helped Maryport lift what they hope will be their first trophy of the season.

Andy Frampton grabbed the goal for Keswick who were playing in their third cup final since joining the Cumberland County League in the summer of 2023.

Maryport, who are still unbeaten in the league and aiming to retain the Premier Division title, are also still in all the county league’s cup competitions remaining and will be aiming to end the season with as many trophies possible.

On Saturday, the sun was shining over Cumbria as cup football was the main focus in the Cumberland County League.

A Louie Elliot goal earned Wigton Harriers a 1-0 win against Cockermouth in the Ken Glover Memorial Cup group stage.

Workington Juniors were also victorious with a 1-0 win when they hosted Mirehouse in the group stage of the League Cup 1 thanks to Ryan Byrne finding the back of the net.

Elsewhere, there were three matches in the League Cup 2 with the game between Cockermouth Reserves and Unisun Athletic Youth Development having the most goals. Declan Moore, Harvie Aldersey and Thomas Lamming were all on the scoresheet for Unisun to give them the 3-2 victory.

Dean Stephens and Joey Briers scored for Cockermouth Reserves.

Travis Fyfe, Luke Blaney, Will Starkey and Joe Martin all netted for Whitehaven AFC Reserves to give them a 4-0 win against Whitehaven Miners Social Development.

Windscale Reserves got themselves a 2-0 victory against Silloth with Sam Wordsworth and Charlie Storey both netting.
