New bus services introduced last year have seen over 11,500 journeys taken by passengers.
Cumberland Council and Stagecoach introduced the new services across north and West Cumbria in November and the pair said they had seen 11,512 journeys up to March 15.
The improvements were made possible thanks to funding from the Department for Transport under the Bus Service Improvement Plan.
The following new routes were introduced in November:
- Route 22: Cleator Moor – Cleator – West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven
- Route 60: Silloth – Maryport
- Route M1: Millom Town Service (including Haverigg)
Improvements were also made to:
- Route 64: Rockcliffe – Durdar
- Route 300: Workington – Carlisle
- Route 57: Maryport – Dearham – Broughton Moor – Workington
- Route 30: Egremont / Frizington – Maryport
- Continued support for Route 217: Frizington – Lamplugh – Dean – Cockermouth
Cumberland Council also issued a statement to say that passenger numbers on the 300 service, which had increased its frequency to every 30 minutes thanks to the funding, had risen by 20 per cent, but did not release the actual numbers of journeys taken.
