A driver caught with a significant amount of cocaine as he travelled on the M6 through Cumbria has been told to expect a lengthy prison sentence.
Nathan Smith, 39, was stopped by police who were patrolling the motorway on February 27 this year.
Smith’s barrister told Carlisle Crown Court this morning that he was found in possession of a significant amount of the class A drug on that date.
During a hearing in front of Recorder Mark Ainsworth, Smith admitted one charge of possessing cocaine with intent to supply it to another. It was being transported from Scotland to West Yorkshire.
That guilty plea, said the defence lawyer, was being entered on a formal basis.
Recorder Ainsworth adjourned the case for that basis of plea to be considered.
Smith, of Thompson Avenue, Bradford, is next due to appear at the crown court on May 6, and will be punished in due course.
“You understand you face a significant sentence,” the judge told him.
Smith remains remanded in custody in the meantime.
