The final of the Low Place trails took place yesterday with 62 hounds turning out for the five-course trail.

Up first were the Seniors with 16 runners, Cautious was sent off as the favourite.

Once slipped, Cautious went out well for Stephen Riley and Isla Hetherington ahead of Huntsman’s Quartz for Ian Donaldson.

Once back into sight on the back fell the hounds were hard to tell but from what people could make out it was Cautious with a few yards on Huntsman’s Quartz with Zeta in third for Stephen Irving and Caroline Graham.

The hounds then go out of sight and are not seen again until they drop down the fell on the finish and when they did it was Cautious who had established a 100-yard lead ahead of Huntsman’s Quartz and Zeta.

It was Huntsman’s Unite for Denise and Jenny Bland and Graham Little who was leading the group ahead of Zoya for Stephen Irving and Caroline Graham with the favourite Maggie in fourth.

Once they started to drop down the fell on the finish it was still Huntsman’s Unite who was leading the race but the hounds began to bunch up before the last jump and Zoya took the advantage to come on and win a length ahead of Maggie for Les and Graham Reid, Erin Rowlandson, Barbara Jones and Steven Walker.

Up next was the non-winners with 17 hounds lining up at the slip. Offspring and Foxparke Pip Pip were sent off as joint favourites.

Once the hounds were into sight, it was Offspring for Stuart, James and Jacob Jeynes who was leading ahead of Foxparke Pip Pip for Team Foxparke and Donald Hodgson.

Up next were the Open Restricted with a field of 11 lining up. Miterdale Dusk was sent off as the favourite.
