One of the Lake District’s only community-owned coffee shops has reopened after a revamp.
Threlkeld Coffee Shop, near Keswick, was officially reopened this week with an event celebrating its expanded kitchen, menu and catering.
Threlkeld Coffee Shop is a community interest company and is wholly owned by the charity that owns Threlkeld Village Hall.
It gives preference to local people for employment, local suppliers for materials and uses Fairtrade products where possible. All profits are given back to the village hall and wider community – including Threlkeld school and local sports teams.
At the relaunch event, 80 people celebrated the fully reopened facility, which now has a second kitchen, new furniture, an expanded menu, sound absorption panels and reopened car park.
An extension to the kitchen means the coffee shop can now for the first time offer whole takeaway cakes and tray-bakes, and catering for meetings held in the village hall.
Volunteer director Adam Bazire said: “The coffee shop is a really important part of the village community and economy.
“We have supported the village hall financially since we opened in 2014 and are now set to continue that support into the future.”
