A sea of sunflowers will fill the grounds of St Bees Priory to raise funds for West Cumbria Hospice at Home.
A thousand handcrafted iron sunflowers will form the basis of the free display, which will be in place from August 2 to August 17.
The sunflowers are available to buy and dedicate in memory of a loved one, and dedications will be displayed.
Holly Harkness, community fundraising co-ordinator, said: “We are delighted to be holding this special event, a first for our charity which will create a space for our supporters to reflect and remember loved ones we have lost and the patients in our care.
“We chose the sunflower because it is the universal symbol of hospice care, representing light, loyalty and love.
“We welcome you to come along and enjoy the beautiful, bright display, which we hope will allow people to find out more about what we do, and provide a special opportunity to support our cause and help us continue to make a difference.”
Hospice at Home West Cumbria provides end of life care to people living in West Cumbria, and all money raised from this event will go towards the care and support given to patients and their families going through the most difficult of times in our local community.
The charity needs to raise £1.5 million a year to deliver the vital services.
To buy a sunflower, visit https://hospiceathomewestcumbria.org.uk or pop in to one of the hospice’s shops in Workington and Cockermouth, or its therapy and information centre in Workington, where you can collect a dedication card.
Once the display has come to an end, supporters will be able to keep their sunflower to remember their loved one and this special event.
