The Copeland North West Club enjoyed a very successful race from Lymm on Saturday in their second event of the new season.
They took seven of the first ten spots in the Red Rose Fed with club chairman Graham Best landing first, third and fifth. He was one, two, three in Copeland.
Graham said: “It’s not very often we get the right conditions to win a Fed so it’s nice to be able to do it when the chance comes along.”
The birds had been liberated 12 noon in a light south east wind and fanciers were expecting a very fast race.
So it proved with the winning pigeon clocked after the 97 mile fly at 1-26pm. Clocking a velocity of 67mph. Graham had two others right in behind the winner.
A two year old chequer hen she has won three times now including 2nd section NWGNFC as a young bird.
She’s a Lambrecht from Gary Tyson of Lancaster paired to a Geerinck cross from Premier Stud.
“She’s on the natural system for now but not sitting at the moment,” said Graham.
Jason Dempsey of Maryport, the longest flyer on the day, got five together and the first over the pad was his nominated pigeon which won him £70 out of the club.
