Cumbrian housebuilder backs Workington Town ladies rugby player

A Cumbrian housebuilder is sponsoring a Workington Town ladies player for the new season.

Genesis Homes, based in Penrith, is backing its project manager Josie Srimgour.

Josie plays a variety of positions in the backs line and has already scored four tries this season.

After four years of playing Rugby Union, Josie joined Workington Town women’s first team earlier this year ready for her first full season in Rugby League.

Josie said: “I’m incredibly grateful to Genesis Homes for its support, it means a lot to have my workplace behind me. Playing for Workington Town is something I’m really passionate about, and knowing my employer is cheering me on both on and off the pitch gives me a real boost.”

Nicky Gordon, managing director of Genesis Homes, said: “We’re thrilled to support a fantastic rugby team close to our beautiful developments and very much close to my heart.

“Josie telling me that she was joining Town brought a huge amount of nostalgia having personally followed the club all over the country as a young lad with my dad, as the club went through its successful spell in the early to mid-90s. To see the club now have a growing women’s team is really pleasing.

“Supporting the communities in which we build is high on our agenda, so with developments at Derwent Rise, Seaton and Farries Field, Stainburn, this felt like the perfect opportunity to back a local team as well as championing Josie’s dedication to the sport.”
