Borwicks Aynsome

A South Lakes farm is on the market for £3.26 million.

Borwicks Aynsome, a 324-acre farm in the Cartmel Valley is for sale with H&H Land & Estates, which described it as a once-in-a-generation opportunity.

The farm includes a Grade II-listed five-bedroom farmhouse, which dates back to the 17th or 18th century and retains many original features, a detached two-bedroom bungalow and a range of traditional and modern agricultural buildings.

The land includes 187 acres of high-quality pasture and meadowland, and 137 acres of upland grazing on Hampsfell.

Hampsfell Fell, part of the offering, features limestone pavement and the Grade II-listed Hampsfell Hospice.

The property is for sale as a whole or in seven separate lots with an overall guide price of £3.26 million:

  • Lot 1, with a guide price of £1.75 million, includes the Grade II listed farmhouse, farm buildings, and 206 acres comprising productive meadow, pasture, and fell land.
  • Lot 2, offered at a guide of £350,000, includes the detached two-bedroom bungalow.
  • Lots 3–7, with guide prices ranging between £140,000 to £370,000, comprise various blocks of pasture and meadowland, with acreages ranging from 13 to 48.

George Carney, H&H Land & Estates Rural Surveyor, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to purchase one of the Cartmel Valley’s most attractive and historic farms.

“The land, which has been let on grazing licences in recent years, is of excellent quality.

“While the farmhouse and bungalow are in need of complete renovation, both properties provide wonderful layouts and have potential to form delightful family homes. The range of traditional and modern farm buildings, currently providing livestock housing and storage, offer exciting development potential, subject to the necessary consents.

“So, whether your ambition lies in farming, renovation, equestrian ventures, holiday accommodation, biodiversity enhancement, or simply securing a remarkable corner of Cumbria’s countryside, Borwicks Aynsome offers it all.”
