Mercedes owners in Carlisle are being warned after a string of vehicle thefts.

Carlisle Police are asking people to be vigilant and report any suspicious incidents to the police after a number of cars were stolen last week.

Officers are also advising owners to where possible to store their vehicles in garages, use wheel locks, key blockers and utilise CCTV to deter opportunist criminals.

More information on preventing car and vehicle theft can be found on Cumbria Police’s website.

Car owners should always:

  • Lock your vehicle
  • Keep the keys safe and keep keyless car keys away from the car or use a signal-blocking pouch for storage
  • Be aware of carjackers
  • Park responsibly and safely in well-lit busy areas
  • Watch out for illegal tow trucks (check for unbranded vehicles and no uniform)
  • Fit good in-car security locks
  • Double-check electronic locking
  • Before owning, check for cloning
  • Secure your port

Information can be reported to officers on 101 or online here: https://orlo.uk/ZtB0V

If a crime is in action always call 999.

Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
