Travel platform Airbnb has included Whitehaven as one of its go-to holiday destinations this summer in the North.
It has created the top 10 list of unique towns that it says everyone should have on their radar.
Whitehaven appears in 10th place.
The bid to put more northern destinations on the map comes as it is revealed 90% of Brits have vacationed in the South in the last five years, while only 39% headed North for a holiday.
It said its research found that more people in Britain have travelled as far as Australia than have experienced West Yorkshire.
Luke Impett, head of partnerships at Airbnb, said: “Our research clearly shows a growing appetite among Brits to break away from the ‘Instagrammable’ travel loop and discover unique, quieter, and more meaningful travel experiences.
“By highlighting these 10 Northern towns and offering guests the opportunity to experience a weekend break themselves, we hope to encourage travellers to explore beyond their algorithm and uncover the rich tapestry of culture, history, and natural beauty.”
