A Lake District walker was airlifted to hospital after a significant fall.
Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out on Friday, June 13, to Scarth Gap on Haystacks after a passer-by heard shouts for help at around 3.40pm.
The team said: “Further investigation suggested that a walker had taken a significant fall whilst descending the mountain.
Given the description of the incident the Coastguard was asked to assist while the team made its way down the valley. From Gatesgarth Farm members made their way on foot up Scarth Gap.
“On arrival, the initial assessment pointed to significant chest and back injuries along with superficial head wounds.
“The casualty was stabilised and transferred directly to the helicopter which had landed on at the top of Scarth Gap.
Our thanks go to the Coastguard and the team wishes the casualty a speedy recovery.”
It was Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team’s fifth callout of the week.
